12 ways to have a mindful Christmas.... 1. Slow down, savour the moments 2. Dress up your home, keep things simple if it feels overwhelming 3. Get together, no...t everyone loves a party especially if feeling anxious or low. But don’t assume they want to opt out at Christmas. Even a visit for half an hour can make a huge difference. 4. Don’t forget to breathe, all the way into your belly, and say to yourself I love you (your name) 5. Make your own presents, relish / jam are always lovely welcomed gifts. 6. Pack your work away, switch off emails & if your mind is still buzzing, meditate. 7. Keep memories alive, it’s important to talk about the people who have passed on, & really important to practice self care, be there for yourself. Again, repeat I love you (your name) 8. Family feelings, it’s not always easy to create the sort or Christmas you see in the movies & adverts. Sometimes you will be confronted with all the things you find difficult to deal with because in encountering your family you encounter yourself says Psychotherapist Aja Khandelwal. Sage advice would be: don’t overcrowd the get-together, try to keep a cool head, and if it’s all looking too fraught, get out for some fresh air & time out. 9. Remember to rest, find somewhere quiet & switch off your phone. Lie down, close your eyes & place your hands on your heart space first, then flop them down by your sides. Breathe slowly in for the count of 4 and out for for the count of 6. Do this for 10 minutes. You’ll feel better for it 10. Food for thought, something tasty but healthier...nuts, fruit mock-tails, humous / guacamole dips. 11. Be careful of the Christmas cheer, when emotions are already heightened alcohol can add fuel to the fire. Karen Pollack says it’s therefore a sad irony that it also seems to be a time where alcohol consumption becomes apparently mandatory. Alcohol is a depressant, lowers inhibition & raises emotion. Some people choose to avoid it altogether, other have to because of medication, and others who know they have addiction issues may not feel they can ‘just have one drink’ Removing the pressure to drink at Christmas would help many, many people offer soft drinks at Christmas, and don’t mock or comment on anyone who takes the non-alcoholic option. 12. How is COVID impacting your life? We cannot readily eliminate the COVID virus from our world. To deal with the pandemic problem we have been focusing our attent...ion on increasing available healthcare. This is truly an indirect approach to the problem. More directly, what we can and must do is make a major effort of improving the health of the human population by: eating better, more nutritious organic and natural foods; daily use of supplements and vitamins; more outdoor time and exercise; and most importantly, avoiding stress (which has become a major consequence of staying alive in America). We must start recognizing that we are personally responsible for maintaining a healthy immune system. As the data now reveals, most everyone infected with COVID that has had a healthy immune system can easily weather a COVID-19 infection and in the process, create a healthy immune response that includes immunological memory that will protect them from any future COVID infection. Hello Full moon! (sturgeon) Here’s an Emotional Cleanse ritual for healing: Use a pencil for this. ... write down all of your negative thoughts, stuff that makes you feel anger, rage, sadness, shame, jealousy, hurt & sick, don’t hold back, cry, let the words flow on to the paper, put your hand on your heart and be gentle with yourself...the feelings don’t have to be current, things from childhood to now, let that shit all go..it no longer serves you & it’s weighing you down. now burn it & give thanks for the space to release. now get in to the shower or bath and soak in water & salt (preferably sea salt) for 20 minutes. * if having a shower or bath is inconvenient this evening, soak your feet in a basin of warm water and salt instead. Rinse off your body (or feet if using a basin) with clean fresh water Have a nice drink of water and congratulate yourself on being kind to you. Lots of love, Tara x
